An illustration must always bring something new into the story that will help kids to get to know the characters, setting, or the atmosphere of the story. In evaluating childrens book illustration, one has to consider whether the illustrations match the age range, whether the characters remain consistent throughout, and whether there is enough room left for the text. Illustrators' portfolios may show how they are able to portray expressions, composition, colors, and various situations. Trim size should be discussed in advance. |
