 Half my garage outlets stopped working and I'm stumped

I went out to the garage yesterday to plug in my leaf blower and get some yard work done, and I noticed that nothing was turning on. At first I thought maybe the extension cord was bad, but after testing a few different things, I realized that all the outlets on one wall of the garage are completely dead. The lights in the garage still work fine, and the outlets on the other wall seem to be working normally, so it's just this one section that's gone out. I checked the breaker box and nothing was tripped, which left me scratching my head because I don't know what else could cause only half the outlets to stop working. I tried resetting the GFCI outlet that's near the garage door, but that didn't make any difference either. I'm not really sure what the problem could be, maybe a loose connection somewhere in the wall or a wire that's come loose over time. I use my garage as a workshop so having those outlets working is pretty important to me, and I'm getting frustrated not being able to figure this out on my own. I know I could start opening up outlets and testing things with a multimeter, but honestly I don't feel comfortable messing around with electrical stuff when I don't fully understand what I'm doing. I think I need to call someone who can come out and diagnose the problem quickly without charging me an arm and a leg just to figure out what's going on. I've been looking for quick electrical troubleshooting in Mountain View so I can get this sorted out without having to wait forever for an appointment. Has anyone else had a situation where only some outlets in a room stopped working? What ended up being the cause and how much did it cost to get fixed? I'd love to have some idea of what I might be dealing with before I start calling around for quotes. |
